Hi

Household Appliances

The 1904 World's Fair also had a number of household/hotel appliances, such as the tabletop stove, coffeemaker, bread machine, dishwasher, the electric dumbwaiter which is basically an elevator to transfer food and laundry between floors of a building, and the electric wall outlet.

The bread machine got a gold metal for usefulness in the World's Fair, and was greatly appreciated my many. The Dishwasher was actually invented to keep fine china from chipping while hand-washing them, and it became such a hit that it is still used to this day, although in different designs. The electric outlet was another hit that was shown off at the world's fair, it was designed so that appliances wouldn't have to be hard-wired into the power wires in the walls, greatly reducing the hazard of having electricity in your home. The wall outlet also allows people to attach and detach electronics at will without danger to themselves or the building.
