Process Paper

Our historical topic is that strikes have influenced workers rights for the better. Strikes have resulted in protected workers rights and ensuring safer work environments. Strikes have also indirectly impacted working conditions, shortened work weeks, and increased wages. Strikes are also an effective way to build solidarity among different groups of people who are working towards a common goal. We believe this is important to learn about, so we made it our historical argument.

Strikes are one major way that rights have been influenced over time. They are the reason that you can negotiate wage increases and they can also help generate public awareness and support for your cause. Strikes are also a significant topic because of the losses that have stemmed from them. For example, the 1894 Pullman Strike turned bloody with as many as 30 casualties killed by the National Guard. It also led to a boycott of Pullman by people sympathetic to the unions demands.

We chose our topic because we wanted to learn about workers’ rights. This was important to us because in the next few years we will start to join the workforce. Strikes are not a thing of the past, they still happen today in order to protect workers jobs as companies increase usage of AI and robots. This fits into the topic of rights and responsibilities because we are researching and learning about how we got the worker’s rights we have now. What workers might need will continue to change along with technological developments in different industries meaning strikes will likely continue far into the future.

While creating our project, we had a designated researcher and a designated website builder. The website builder helped with research but was mostly in charge of editing and inputting our research into the website. All of us researched some, at least finding some sources for others to look at. We made sure to keep track of all the sources we were using.

When creating our project, we split up the work as evenly as we could. We had one person work on the annotated bibliography and keep track of our sources. This allowed another person who worked on the process paper. Our tech person created and designed the website, he also uploaded our research to it.
